Rheumatoid Foot
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease with a genetic predisposition
Deformities of the forefoot are common characterized by destruction of both the bony and soft tissue structures
A typical patient with rheumatoid foot may have:
o Bunion (hallux valgus)
o Metatarsalgia (pain over the ball of the foot with loss of the fat pad)
o Hammertoe deformities
o Painful callous under the ball of the foot or on the top of toes
Dr. Marsh performs a major forefoot reconstruction for rheumatoid foot deformities which includes 1st MTP fusion and lesser metatarsal head resections
