Cavovarus Foot Reconstruction

  • Deformity of the foot that results in abnormally high medial arch (cavus) & the heel turned inward (varus). Results in pain and instability of the lateral foot and ankle

  • Various causes including Charcot-Marie Tooth disease, neurological disorders, stroke, spinal injury, traumatic foot injury but may be idiopathic (no known cause)

  • Usually presents in childhood affecting both feet. The deformity typically worsens over time

  • Associated with tight plantar fascia and claw toes

  • There are two forms of the deformity: flexible or rigid

  • With flexible deformities, Dr. Marsh performs a reconstruction with osteotomies and soft tissue procedures to restore the foot to a normal position

  • With rigid deformities, Dr. Marsh performs a reconstruction with fusion of the hindfoot and soft tissue procedures to restore the foot to a normal position
